I expected Derrick Ward would have a tough time making an impact with the Bucs this season. I just had no idea the team would release him this week.
And you can see, based on Raheem Morris' comments, that Ward didn't do himself any favors by speaking out of his role with the teamm
Morris essentially said that Ward didn't care enough or try hard enough. Them's fightin' words.
And Morris could cut WR Michael Clayton this week; his place on the team is all but taken.
Ward was a free-agent bust, and the Bucs didn't care about financials in this case. They had to send a message that this team will not have any malcontents or guys who won't gut one out for the team.
Look, 6-10 would be nice. Would that keep Morris' job? I think it would.
After being all buddy-buddy with his team last season, Morris has taken a tougher stance. It might do this team some good.
They have little to lose right now. We'll see if Clayton is the next to fall, though I would not put him in Ward's category. Clayton just can't play anymore at his rookie-season level.
