When I woke up this morning, the first thing I said to myself was: ”Here come the trades."

With the draft seeming to speed along on Saturday, with this year’s event well into the sixth round as I write this, the trade action has indeed been substantial.

In no particular order, the Raiders traded LB Kirk Morrison to the Jaguars and picked up Jason Campbell from the Redskins; the Seahawks backed up the truck for proven running backs, acquiring LenDale White from the Titans and Leon Washington from the Jets, who apparently have decided to dump high-profile OG Alan Faneca; and the Steelers reacquired CB Bryant McFadden from the Cardinals.

Geez, I think I just broke a sweat writing that last sentence!

Real quickly, I have two reactions in particular worth blogging about:

The Seahawks and the high-energy Pete Carroll are really shaking things up. After seeming to do well with their draft selections, now they are continuing to improve themselves with the additions of White and Washington.

Beyond that, Carroll has apparently managed to really tick off one of his former UCS guys, S Taylor Mays, who thought Carroll betrayed him by not selecting him over Texas S Earl Thomas in the first round.

About a half-hour ago, Carroll said on ESPN that he understands the way Mays feels, but what’s done is done. So there!

I can hardly wait until the Seahawks face off against the Niners, who happily selected Mays in the second round, for the first time in 2010. Already, Carroll is fueling rivalries in the NFC West, and that’s a good thing.

The other reaction? Something tells me Campbell will thrive in Oakland. It’s just a gut feeling, but I think he has decent talent. Are we looking at a Rich Gannon-type rejuvenation in Raiders Nation?

Don’t rule that possibility out.
