Still mulling Taylor Mays to the 49ers.

He has the size and speed to play free safety, but the tape simply shows he doesn't operate well in space and has questions with his intelligence and disgnostic skills.

Maybe a move to strong safety?

The 49ers have Dashon Goldson, and he's best in that FS space. We're talking about an emerging playmaker who broke out last season.

Mays could back him up in Year One, or he could replace Michael Lewis on the strong side.

But is Mays willing to stick his nose in the trash and be that tough guy? The Trojans wanted him to be the enforcer back there, but he never quite became that player. Maybe Vance Joseph can coach Mays up and perhaps Greg Manusky can find a way to take advantage of those God-given skills.
