There is word out there that the Eagles have offered QB Kevin Kolb a contract extension.
Don't believe it. Not yet, anyway.
The Eagles have reason to not want news of this getting out, if indeed it's true: Signing Kolb to an extension would diminish the trade value for Donovan McNabb, with teams knowing he'd have to go.
Both quarterbacks have deals that run through 2010. After next season, they would be free agents theoretically.
Andy Reid has said that McNabb is his QB "for now," but that now was over a month ago. Now might soon become "was" if it hasn't already.
I am not saying that Kolb hasn't gotten some interest from the Eagles. His camp and the team probably have talked extension. All I am saying is that it's not likely they would announce anything until McNabb were not on the roster.
Even if the report is totally false, the Eagles can't be happy that this story is out.
