With their 34-27 victory over the California Redwoods in San Francisco Thursday night, the Florida Tuskers completed their perfect 6-0 season.
The victory didn't mean much in terms of the season, seeing as the Tuskers had already clinched a championship bid, but Tuskers coach Jim Haslett was proud of the team's undefeated season.
"I think 6-0 is pretty good in anything you do, especially when you are playing seven (games)," Haslett said in a league press release. "Six and oh in any league, whether it's high school, college, NFL, is what you want to achieve. We need to get one more to top it off though. If we don't get that, then it really doesn't make a difference."
The championship game, which Haslett was referring to, will pit the Tuskers against Jim Fassel's Las Vegas Locomotives in a meeting at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas on Nov. 27 at noon. The two teams have met twice this season, with the Tuskers winning both matchups; the first game's final score was 29-15 and the second game was closer, ending with the score of 27-24.
The game will also pit two of the UFL's more recognizable names against each other, with former NFL QBs J.P. Losman and Brooks Bollinger leading the way for the Locos and Tuskers, respectively. Bollinger likely will garner league MVP honors once all is said and done, as he has looked outstanding in his search for another NFL gig. On the season, Bollinger has completed 67.6 percent of his passes for 1,525 yards, 14 TDs and just three interceptions. As for Losman, he tallied totals of 62.6 percent completion rate, 1,193 yards, nine TDs and two picks.
The Locos have a game Friday night against the New York Sentinels, but like the Tuskers-Redwoods game, it basically will be a formality.
