49ers claim LB Brooks, waive LB Thomas

The 49ers claimed and were awarded LB Ahmad Brooks off waivers from the Bengals on Sunday. To make room for Brooks, the team waived LB Dontarrious Thomas, a free-agent signee from the Vikings this past offseason.
Brooks, 24, came into the league as the Bengals' third-round draft pick in the 2006 supplemental draft out of Virginia. The 6-3, 259-pounder played in 11 games with five starts at middle linebacker as a rookie and posted 46 total tackles. Brooks started the first two games in '07 before suffering a season-ending groin injury.
