Niners waive DE Oliver

By PFW staff
July 15, 2008

The Niners announced Tuesday that DE Melvin Oliver has been waived.

Originally a sixth-round draft pick out of LSU in 2006, Oliver displayed impressive flashes as a rookie in 14 starts, registering 50 tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery that he returned for a touchdown.

But the 6-3, 279-pounder missed the entire 2007 season after suffering a knee injury during OTAs in June and was ultimately deemed expendable due to persistent injury concerns.
