Niners play QB roulette

While the major focus in Niners Nation continues to be on the supposed “wide open” competition for the starting QB job among Alex Smith, Shaun Hill and T.J. O’Sullivan, the Niners took care of some other business at the QB position Monday.
The Niners signed QB Kyle Wright off waivers from the Vikings and made room for the local product on the roster by releasing QB Drew Olson, who was signed to the Niners’ practice squad late last November. Olson was activated to serve as the team’s backup QB for the season finale vs. Cleveland last season but saw no action.
The 6-3, 220-pound Wright was signed by Minnesota as a rookie free agent after the draft. He was waived July 2. Wright attended Danville Monte Visita High School before attending the University of Miami (Fla.), where he threw for 1,747 yards and 12 TDs his final season.
