Milloy wants extension, but Falcons opt to wait and see
Aug. 13, 2008
The Falcons are asking a lot of SS Lawyer Milloy this season as he heads up a young secondary. He is being expected to lead, teach and perform and would like to be rewarded for his efforts with a contract extension of at least one year, but Atlanta’s front office isn’t ready to finalize a deal yet, the way we hear it. Sources say the Falcons are open to an extension for Milloy, who will become a free agent after the season, but want to see the dynamic of their team through four or five regular-season games before they make deals with any contract-year players. Milloy, who will turn 35 in November, believes he’s underpaid, making $1.7 million this season, and he seemed bitter about that fact early in camp, according to sources. We hear that he has decided not to sulk and it appears he’s not letting it affect his play on the field, judging by a strong outing in the first preseason game against the Jaguars. However, sources familiar with Milloy say that if he does not receive an extension by the time the season ends, he’ll likely move on in free agency and try to join a contending team.
