Falcons name Ryan starting quarterback

The Falcons will announce rookie QB Matt Ryan as their Week One starter after practice on Sunday, according to reports.
Ryan, the third-overall pick in April's draft, battled Chris Redman and Joey Harrington for the starting job in the preseason. Before camp opened, sources in Atlanta said the Falcons were hoping Ryan would perform well enough to justify making him the starter, and he did, completing 32-of-52 passes for 277 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in three preseason games.
Atlanta opens the season at home against the Lions on Sept. 7.
