Report: Favre files for reinstatement

Brett Favre is closer to forcing the Packers to make a decision on how to handle the disgruntled quarterback, as he has taken the next official step in ending his retirement. ESPN is reporting that Favre faxed a reinstatement letter to the NFL on Tuesday.
That means that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell can now approve Favre’s return to the NFL, which will put the onus on Packers GM Ted Thompson to make the next move.
Once Favre is reinstated, he can show up to Packers training camp as a player under contract. Considering the Packers want to avoid that, this latest move might prompt Green Bay to act quicker in terms of making a trade, especially because the team does not want to grant Favre his outright release, which would allow Favre to sign anywhere he pleases, potentially with a division rival.
Teams most recently mentioned as possible destinations for Favre via trade are the Jets and Buccaneers.
