Seventeen minutes before the Packers’ Tuesday practice was scheduled to begin, NFL Network reported that Brett Favre had left the premises in his red SUV that was parked in a back lot.
A few hours earlier, in an interview with ESPN.com’s Chris Mortensen, Favre said his situation with the team had reached a “stalemate” and that “the best thing for this team is for us to part ways.”
There was no immediate word as to where Favre was headed in his SUV, nor was there any word on when Packers head coach Mike McCarthy will address the growing media circus that has gathered in Green Bay regarding the meeting he had with Favre that lasted over five hours yesterday and presumably resumed this morning, with no resolution having been reached.
It was initially presumed that McCarthy would address the media before the Tuesday practice, but it now appears the Packers’ head coach won’t talk until after today’s two-hour practice, at the earliest.
About three minutes before NFL Network reported that Favre had split the scene, cheers were heard when Rodgers became the first player to make an appearance on the field. Brohm and Flynn followed Rodgers out to the field shortly thereafter, but the familiar No. 4 jersey of Favre was nowhere in sight.
As has been the case since the Favre saga began, all kinds of scenarios continue to twist wildly in the wind, with speculation still running rampant that some sort of resolution — a trade, an outright release, acceptance by Favre of the team’s lifetime personal-services offer, et al — will be reached before the day runs out.
The pro football world now waits anxiously for McCarthy to drop the latest bomb in the Brett Favre blockbuster.
