In what has become arguably one of the strangest pro-football stories ever, the strangest ending of all would be the sight of Brett Favre running out of the Lambeau Field tunnel in the regular-season opener vs. Minnesota wearing a Vikings uniform.
But according to an article by Bob McGinn in today's Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the prospect of Favre getting traded to the Vikings is far from a stretch.
An NFL personnel executive with close ties to clubs in the NFC North told McGinn, who is also a veteran Pro Football Weekly correspondent, that the Packers called the Vikings on Friday to let them know Favre was available.
"They've kind of said through one of their (front-office) guys that if Favre did report they would potentially trade him within the division," the executive said.
The article also indicated that the Vikings are the only team in the NFC North with any serious interest in obtaining Favre and would prefer to obtain his services sooner than later in order to better prepare him for the Sept. 8 season opener in Green Bay.
