And the twists just keep on coming.
Hot on the heels of a report in the Wednesday editions of the Green Bay Press-Gazette that Brett Favre was ready to officially file for reinstatement back into the NFL, his agent told ESPN's Chris Mortensen just the opposite later in the day.
"We have no definite plans to ask for reinstatement," James "Bus" Cook told ESPN. "Right now we have until the sixth week (of the regular season) and Brett has made it pretty clear that he is not willing to come in as a backup.
"… We're going to let Green Bay decide what they want to do," Cook concluded. "It's their move."
Favre's relationship with the Packers appears to be getting more tense by the minute in the wake of his rambling, often-emotional interview with Fox News' Greta Van Susteren that was broadcast in two parts on successive nights.
The whole situation promises to get even more awkward at the end of the week, when Favre is scheduled to present former teammate Frank Winters at the Packers Hall of Fame induction banquet at Lambeau Field on Saturday night.
