All quiet on Favre front — except the rumors

The latest twist on the Brett Favre saga refuses to stop turning, even though neither Favre nor the Packers have been willing to directly comment yet on ESPN football insider Chris Mortensen’s July 3 report that Favre was thinking about putting an abrupt end to the retirement he so dramatically announced in early March.
But while the pro football world waits with bated breath for specific developments, both the local and national media continue to stir the kettle — with no end in sight.
Milwaukee TV station WTMJ reported Monday that Favre sent a text to Packers GM Ted Thompson on Saturday, and that Thompson replied that any communication between him and the future first-ballot Hall of Fame QB would have to wait until he returned from vacation.
Meanwhile, SI.com’s Peter King reported that Thompson also refused to get back to Favre’s agent, James ”Bus” Cook, after Cook reportedly requested that Favre be taken off the Packers’ reserve/retired list within next 10 days. King also wrote that the Packers have sent a team intermediary down to Mississippi to talk with Favre.
Stay tuned for further details.
