The failings of first-round picks Michael Haynes, Rex Grossman and Cedric Benson offset the fact that nearly half the current roster is comprised of players selected in the past five drafts. The fact that only four of the 42 players selected in that span were offensive linemen — none selected higher than the fourth round — speaks volumes about the Bears’ decline at that position. The 2004 draft class, led by Tommie Harris, has reaped the most dividends.
