Looking to fortify their suspect offensive line, the Bears acquired fourth-year OG Dan Buenning from the Buccaneers Tuesday afternoon in exchange for an undisclosed 2009 draft pick.
Selected by Tampa Bay in the fourth round of the 2005 draft out of the University of Wisconsin, the 6-4, 320-pound Buenning has appeared in 25 regular-season games, with 23 starts in his pro career. Coming off a knee injury that landed him on injured reserve in late November of the 2006 season, Buenning was declared inactive for all 16 regular-season games and one playoff game last season. But in 2005, he started all 16 regular-season games at left guard and helped pave the way for RB Cadillac Williams to rush for 1,178 yards in his rookie season.
Buenning is likely to compete with Josh Beekman and Terrence Metcalf for the starting OLG job this season.
The Bears also announced that they had waived CB Zackary Bowman.
