NFL Network reported this morning that Bears seventh-year OG Terrence Metcalf is expected to undergo arthroscopic surgery on his bruised right knee and could be out up to three weeks.

The news isn't good for an offensive line that has already been hindered by the absence of first-round draft pick Chris Williams, the team's projected starting left tackle, who has been unable to practice since the second day of training camp due to back spasms.

Metcalf had been considered the front-runner for the starting job at left guard, but with him temporarily out of commission, second-year pro Josh Beekman is likely to get the most snaps at that position. John St. Clair, another challenger for the starting OLG job, has been lining up with the first team at left tackle in Williams' absence.
