Judge: Redskins name not racially offensive

A federal judge has ruled in favor of the Washington Redskins in a suit brought against them by Native Americans who claimed that the team nickname is offensive, according to the Associated Press.
The group had been trying to get the courts to force the Redskins to abandon their famed insignia because they felt it exploited their heritage.
The Redskins are one of the more valuable franchises in all team sports worldwide and are among the NFL leaders in merchandise, much of which is emblazoned with the team’s famous trademark.
But the U.S. district judge in Washington says the plaintiffs delayed their case too long, adding she does not rule on “the appropriateness of Native American imagery for team names.”
