Redskins sign draft pick Rinehart; cut Hollenbach, two others

By PFW staff
July 11, 2008

Third-round pick Chad Rinehart agreed to terms with the Redskins last night. Complete terms were not known, but he reportedly received a signing bonus of $611,350 with his four-year deal.

Rinehart, who was a left tackle at Northern Iowa, is expected to work at both guard and tackle in training camp and could compete for playing time right away in an OL unit that is facing age and injury concerns.

The Redskins also released QB Sam Hollenbach — who had been expected to vie for the No. 3 QB role with rookie Colt Brennan — plus DE Tommy Davis and C Kyle DeVan.

OL coach Joe Bugel offered praise for Rinehart this offseason, saying the rookie could start at guard as a rookie and project to tackle eventually.

In Pro Football Weekly's 2008 Draft Preview book, PFW draft analyst Nolan Nawrocki summed up Rinehart this way: "College left tackle who lacks the foot quickness and agility desired on the left side and likely will have to move inside to be effective, where his strength and power would be more suited and he would not be as vulnerable to handling edge speed."
