McNabb having outstanding camp for Eagles
Aug. 8, 2008
An Eagles source said QB Donovan McNabb has had one of his best camps in years, putting on a display of accuracy, command and confidence in leading the Eagles’ first-team offense in practices. Despite the distractions of All-Pro OG Shawn Andrews missing camp, myriad injuries and contract squabbles with RB Brian Westbrook and CB Lito Sheppard, the Eagles have looked relatively strong in practice, and McNabb is leading the way. The source said despite a strong camp by backup QB Kevin Kolb — who leapfrogged veteran A.J. Feeley on the depth chart — there is no way McNabb will forfeit his starting spot unless he gets hurt. And one of the reasons McNabb has looked so sharp is because he was able to put in almost a full offseason’s worth of work without losing time to rehab a significant injury. His arm has been good, but it’s his legs that have helped him get power into his throws, escape the pass rush and move around the pocket and take off running when needed.
