Westbrook arrives in Eagles camp ready to go
July 25, 2008
RB Brian Westbrook is perhaps the top player at his position in the NFL, and yet some, namely offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg, feel he hasn’t gotten the due he deserves. “I still think he’s underrated even though he made the Pro Bowl,” Mornhinweg said. “I think he’s vastly underrated.” Westbrook himself likely agrees with his coach’s sentiment. He recently fired agent Fletcher Smith, who also represents Donovan McNabb, and filed paperwork to make the switch to agent Todd France for his representation. France’s first mission, per Westbrook, is to get the Eagles to redo the running back's existing five-year, $25 million deal he signed in 2005. Westbrook believes he has outplayed that deal and reportedly is seeking something in the three-year, $30 million range. That said, he reported to camp on Thursday in time for a 7 p.m. team meeting and likely will practice while he hopes and waits for a new deal.
