Andrews’ absence from Eagles camp believed to be contract-related

Forget Lito Sheppard and Brian Westbrook, who reported to Lehigh College Thursday night — the Eagles have turned their concern to absent All-Pro OG Shawn Andrews.
Andrews failed to arrive at camp for head coach Andy Reid’s 7 p.m. meeting last night and is considered a holdout even though Rich Moran, Andrews’ agent, said his client was missing time for “personal reasons.”
Andrews’ absence, unlike when he missed the mandatory June minicamps, is considered unexcused. Reid would not say if Andrews would be levied with fines in excess of $6,000 per day for missing the start of camp.
The training-camp holdout is the Eagles’ first since 2005, when Westbrook sat out before earning a new deal. The talk leading up to this year’s camp was that Westbrook was considering similar action again, but he showed up more than an hour early last night. Sheppard, the team announced, also was in attendance.
Westbrook believes he has outplayed his ’05 deal and could be seeking as much as $10 million per season. Sheppard was the subject of trade rumors throughout the offseason and reportedly was not happy with his status on the team as a nickel back.
Andrews’ motives are unknown, but he is considered one of the premiere guards in the game and perhaps is seeking a new deal, as several Internet reports have suggested.
