Schweigert gives Giants depth at safety

The Giants signed S Stuart Schweigert to provide depth at safety, where the team waived injured rookie Nehemiah Warrick, who suffered a knee injury.
Schweigert had signed with the Redskins late in free agency this offseason and was expected to vie for a starting position, but he was a little bit of a surprise cut last week. The Redskins say that Schweigert wasn’t a great fit in their aggressive defensive scheme.
“He’s a veteran,” head coach Tom Coughlin said. “He’s played special teams. He’s been a starter in the league. We think that a guy of that nature can come in and make the adaptation that must move swiftly, which we need.”
