About face? Burress sheds doubt about getting to camp on time

Two days after he told the New York Post there was “no question” he’d report to camp with a new contract in hand, Giants WR Plaxico Burress hedged a bit in an ESPN interview.
Appearing on “First Take” to promote his new book, Burress cast doubt on the subject, saying he hoped to be in camp on time when players report on July 24 in Albany, N.Y. But when asked directly if he would show up if no new deal had been struck, Burress backed off further.
“I’m really not sure right now,” he said.
Burress sat out the veterans minicamp on June 11 for what he classified as a “business decision” and said he wouldn’t hit the field until a new deal was done. But the Post report from Tuesday appeared to undercut that stance.
There are three years remaining on his current contract, which he signed in 2005, coming over from the Steelers. He’s due to make $3.25 million this season and $4 million in 2009.
Burress says he is almost fully recovered from his myriad injuries he suffered last season. Among the ailments: torn ligaments in his right ankle, torn ligaments in his left pinky and a sprained MCL he suffered the week leading up to the Giants’ win in Super Bowl XLII. Burress caught the winning touchdown pass in the game from Eli Manning in the final minute.
