Report: Burress will report to Giants camp on time

Plaxico Burress tells PFW correspondent and New York Post writer Paul Schwartz that he’s healthy and excited to report to training camp on time.
Previous reports, included thinly veiled threats from Burress himself, suggested he might hold out from the start of camp in an effort to force the Giants’ hand on giving him a new contract. But Burress said he thinks progress has been made in regard to a new deal, and nothing should stand in the way of reporting to Albany on July 24 with the rest of his teammates.
“I’m getting good feedback,” Burress told the Post about a new contract. “I think it’s going to get done. I’m not concerned about it. I don’t want to go anywhere, I’m happy in New York, I just want to make sure I’m here for a long time.”
That’s a far cry from where Burress stood as recently as June 11, when he sat out of the veterans minicamp for what he classified as a “business decision” and said he wouldn’t hit the field until a new deal was done.
Burress told the Post there was “no question” he’d have a new deal before camp.
There are three years remaining on his current contract, which he signed in 2005, coming over from the Steelers. He’s due to make $3.25 million this season and $4 million in 2009.
His other issue is his health, but Burress says he is almost fully recovered from his myriad injuries he suffered last season. Among the ailments: torn ligaments in his right ankle, torn ligaments in his left pinky and a sprained MCL he suffered the week leading up to the Giants’ win in Super Bowl XLII. Burress caught the winning touchdown pass in the game from Eli Manning in the final minute.
