Cowboys keep OLT Adams off free-agent market

Dallas OLT Flozell Adams’ agent, Jordan Woy, said he expected to talk with the Cowboys right up until midnight Thursday, with the idea of hammering home a new six-year contract with the club. As it turns out, both sides had several hours to spare.
With the free-agency period looming at midnight tonight, Adams and the Cowboys agreed to a multiyear deal that will keep him in Dallas — potentially for the rest of his NFL career. Terms of the deal were not made available.
The PFW spin
The is a coup for the Cowboys, who had no obvious replacement on the roster, despite drafting two tackles — James Marten and Doug Free — last year. The team also owns two first-round draft picks in April but didn’t want to face the prospect of spending one on a tackle and having him start for a team that has Super Bowl aspirations.
The other scenario that the team had discussed was moving ORG Leonard Davis to left tackle, but that would have weakened two positions to replace one. But now, none of that is needed. QB Tony Romo will have his backside protected by Adams, who had been the best left tackle set to hit the free-agent market, in most people’s eyes.
