The Chargers’ Legedu Naanee will be more than just a special-teams ace this season. Following a rookie year in which he never had a true position, the Boise State product will be officially labeled as a wide receiver in 2008. Along with the position change also comes a new number, as Naanee will switch from No. 40 to No. 11. He’s hoping this more narrow focus will result in better on-field production.
Naanee recently told Chargers.com that the team might install some special offensive packages for him. He said they want to get him more snaps at receiver, and they plan to use him in creative ways. Naanee reportedly has looked impressive in offseason workouts, and head coach Norv Turner is pleased with the 24-year-old’s progress.
Naanee is part of a very crowded receiving corps in San Diego, but his increased playing time at wideout should lead to an improvement on his stats from ’07, when he caught eight passes for 69 yards. He’ll continue to contribute on special teams as well.
