The Chiefs signed the biggest piece of their '08 draft class Saturday, agreeing to terms with first-round pick DT Glenn Dorsey. The fifth overall selection signed a five-year, $51 million contract that includes an option year and more than $22 million in guaranteed money.
Dorsey, considered by many experts to be the best defensive lineman in this year's draft, is expected to start at defensive tackle for Kansas City from Day One. As a senior at LSU, Dorsey was the recipient of numerous national awards, including the Nagurski Award (best defensive player) and the Outland Trophy (best interior lineman).
In PFW’s 2008 Draft Preview book, draft analyst Nolan Nawrocki said this of Dorsey: "A ball of relentless energy and power off the snap, Dorsey often overwhelms blockers with his feet and marvelous agility. Physical talents aside, he possesses outstanding intangibles — passion, toughness, determination and on-field leadership — and makes everyone around him better."
Dorsey's contract negotiations caused him to miss only one true workout. He was on the field for Saturday's afternoon practice.
