The Chiefs announced Wednesday that they've agreed to terms with two draft picks, WR Kevin Robinson and DE Brian Johnston. Each received three-year contracts; no other terms were disclosed.
Robinson, a sixth-round pick out of Utah State, is expected to be an important special-teams contributor for Kansas City. He set numerous Aggie records for returning, and he holds the NCAA career mark for all-purpose yards per play with 16.2.
In PFW's 2008 Draft Preview, draft expert Nolan Nawrocki called Robinson a "clutch game-day performer" but said he "lacks ideal speed, burst and functional playing strength to be effective as a receiver and will have to make it as a return specialist."
Johnston, a seventh-round choice from Gardner-Webb, caught the Chiefs' eye after being named Big South Defensive Player of the Year in each of the last two seasons. He has impressed in offseason workouts and could see time at defensive end on passing downs.
Nawrocki said this about Johnston: "Raw developmental pass rusher who lacks ideal base strength, arm length and quickness for the pro game."
Kansas City now has agreed to terms with five of their 12 '08 draft picks.
