If not for the potential tied to the past two years, the draft has been an unmitigated disaster for the Broncos lately. Take this fact into consideration: Of the 28 players selected from 2002-04, only LB D.J. Williams remains on the team. That’s a pretty good indication of why the Broncos have been forced to depend on free agency as a way of adding both impact players and depth. The only thing keeping Denver’s draft results from being a total bust is the past two years, as Jay Cutler, Brandon Marshall, Tony Scheffler, Elvis Dumervil, Jarvis Moss, Tim Crowder and Marcus Thomas look like they have bright futures.
