Report: Texans sign RB Bell
By PFW staff
July 31, 2008
The Texans signed ex-Broncos RB Mike Bell on Thursday, The Houston Chronicle reported.
The 6-0, 225-pound Bell rushed for 677 yards and eight TDs as a rookie in 2006, but his playing time was cut drastically last season when he was moved to fullback. The Broncos released him in June. Houston's offense is similar to Denver's, and Bell understands the one-cut-and-go philosophy of the zone-blocking scheme employed by the Texans.
The Texans hope the addition of Bell helps keep RBs Ahman Green, Steve Slaton, Chris Taylor and Darius Walker fresh. Ex-Titans RB Chris Brown is out with a nagging back injury, increasing the workload on the other backs.
