Former GM Charley Casserly’s five drafts in Houston were not filled with standouts, and taking David Carr with the franchise’s No. 1 overall pick in 2002 set the Texans back considerably. But Casserly did hit with his No. 1 picks in ’03 and ’04, and Mario Williams — the much-criticized top pick in ’06 — had a breakout second NFL season. That said, the lack of contributors from the Texans’ 2002-05 drafts still hamstrings the club. However, the ’06 draft was better, and the ’07 draft class has promise.
