The 2003 and ’04 drafts were Butch Davis’ last with the Browns. A long-snapper (Ryan Pontbriand) is the top contributor from the ’03 draft, but Davis did do well with the Kellen Winslow and Sean Jones picks. GM Phil Savage’s three drafts have been marked by successes at the top (Braylon Edwards, Kamerion Wimbley, Joe Thomas) and mixed results, at best, thereafter. The decision to trade up for Brady Quinn was praised and could pay dividends if Derek Anderson is traded or departs in free agency. The Browns haven’t drafted a D-lineman on Day One since ’01.
