The NFL Internet Network is reporting that Cincinnati head coach Marvin Lewis said Wednesday that if the season started now, Chris Perry would be the Bengals’ starting running back.
In Perry’s first full preseason in five NFL seasons, he has filled in for an ailing Rudi Johnson, who has caused a sense of urgency in the organization with his slow progress.
“Chris feels like the starting running back and he feels very good about that,” Lewis told the NFL Internet Network.
The Bengals have struggled with multiple injuries this preseason, including injuries to starting WRs T.J. Houshmanzadeh and Chad Johnson.
Lewis indicated that Chad Johnson is recovering better than expected from his injured shoulder and that Week One remains the target date for the wide receiver to return to action.
