The Ravens signed WR Marcus Smith, a fourth-round pick, to a three-year contract on Friday. Smith, who caught 153 passes in his career at New Mexico, was described in Pro Football Weekly's 2008 Draft Preview as a "strong, physical and well-built" player who could "contribute readily on special teams and be groomed as a receiver."
In other Ravens news, the club, as expected, placed TE Quinn Sypniewski on injured reserve. Sypniewski, who caught 34 passes in 2007, suffered a knee injury earlier in the spring. Rookie TE Scott Kuhn was also placed on injured reserve with a knee injury.
The Ravens also waived LB Mike Smith after agreeing to an injury settlement with the fourth-year player. Smith missed last season with a shoulder injury.
