One day after their first choice turned them down, the Ravens turned to Eagles DB coach John Harbaugh to succeed Brian Billick as the third head coach in the team’s history.
Baltimore’s brain trust — owner Steve Bisciotti, president Dick Cass and general manager Ozzie Newsome — brought Harbaugh, 45, to the Ravens’ Owings Mills, Md., complex Friday for a second interview and met with him the entire day, eventually coming to terms on a contract about 5:30 p.m. EST. Harbaugh will be introduced at a news conference Saturday.
Sources say Harbaugh likely will bring Eagles QB coach Pat Shurmur to Baltimore to serve as his offensive coordinator. Harbaugh has a reputation as one who pays great attention to detail.
Harbaugh spent 10 seasons as an assistant coach in Philadelphia, the first nine as special-teams coordinator and 2007 in charge of the secondary. His peers named him NFL Special Teams Coach of the Year in 2001.
