Patriots meet with SS Lynch in Foxborough

Apparently, Patriots coach Bill Belichick wasn’t mincing any words when he lamented the season-ending knee injury to SS-ILB hybrid Tank Williams last week. The Boston Globe is reporting that the club is hosting venerable veteran John Lynch at Gillette Stadium today, which appears to be closely tied to the loss of Williams. The two are similar players in terms of style, and Lynch would seemingly fit the box-safety/nickel linebacker role Williams was in line to assume.
Wanting to play for a championship contender, Lynch asked for and was granted his release from the Broncos earlier this month. A possible future Hall of Famer, the 36-year-old Lynch has been selected to play in nine Pro Bowls.
Today’s visit marks the Patriots’ second courtship of Lynch, as they also expressed interest in him when he was a free agent out of Tampa Bay back in 2004.
