The Jets signed fourth-round pick Dwight Lowery on Wednesday. The 5-11, 200-pound cornerback out of San Jose State will be counted on to provide depth in a young but talented Jets secondary. Lowery was a big-play machine in his two years at San Jose State, intercepting 13 passes, including a nation-leading nine in 2006.
In PFW’s 2008 Draft Preview, PFW draft analyst Nolan Nawrocki writes that although Lowery secured a host of picks in college, “he will not have marginal WAC quarterbacks to exploit in the pros. Lack of speed, foot quickness and fluidity could restrict him to zone coverage. Size and short-area quickness are ideal for lining up on the slot.”
