The Dolphins aren’t wasting much time getting their draft picks signed. On Friday, the team inked third-round DE Kendall Langford to a multiyear deal, the seventh Dolphins draftee to sign on. Only second-round QB Chad Henne and second-round DE Phillip Merling have yet to come to terms with the club.

A small-college star at Hampton, Langford checks in at 6-5, 287 pounds, and will be counted on, along with Merling, to help transition the defense from being a predominately 4-3 scheme to a 3-4 scheme.

In Pro Football Weekly’s 2008 Draft Preview book, PFW draft analyst Nolan Nawrocki summed up Langford this way:

“May be at least two years away from contributing and could warrant some looks as a quick-twitch, upfield three-technique. However, his best fit will likely come as a five-technique in a 3-4 front or a base end in a 4-3 front. Similar to Jaguars DLE Paul Spicer, who entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 1998 and took several years before he caught on in Jacksonville and developed. His best football is ahead of him.”
