Report: Bills Pro Bowl OT Peters to end holdout
By PFW staff
Sept. 5, 2008
After being MIA in Orchard Park throughout the entire offseason, Bills Pro Bowl OLT Jason Peters finally decided to end his holdout two days before Week One, NFL Network’s Adam Schefter reports. Only the third-highest-paid offensive lineman on the team, Peters has been in search of a lucrative extension that’s worthy of a player of his ability.
Bills chief operating officer Russ Brandon has maintained throughout the summer that he wouldn’t negotiate until Peters reported. The Bills were able to fine Peters a little more than $15,000 for every day he missed since the start of training camp, but missing a regular-season game would have equaled a $191,000 check forfeiture. With three years left on Peters’ deal, the Bills are in no rush to give him more money, although it wouldn’t be surprising to see them begin working out an extension as soon as they’re done negotiating an extension for WR Lee Evans. Evans is entering the final year of his contract.
Peters is likely to sit out Sunday’s opener against the Seahawks, but should be back in action for the Week Two game at Jacksonville.
