Chiefs third-year WR Jeff Webb, quoted in The Buffalo News regarding the vacant starting WR position opposite Dwayne Bowe: “If you go in thinking that you don’t have a chance to start, then you probably don’t have a chance. You have to believe in yourself, work hard and then take advantage of your opportunity. We only have one guaranteed starter, and that’s (Dwayne) Bowe. After that, it’s all about who performs the best.” Webb added: “I know I’ve shown some things, but to make it in this league you have to show it consistently. You have to show you can do everything without making mistakes. I think the best thing I do is the deep ball. I’ve never been what you’d call a possession receiver. That’s what I have to work on.”

Titans LB Keith Bulluck, explaining that youth is no longer an excuse for his team, as quoted in The (Nashville) City Paper: “Everybody played in the playoffs last year, and no one’s really young on this team anymore. I remember a couple of years ago, we were talking about we had the youngest team in the league, but that’s not the situation now. We have depth and we have experience, and we have attitude.” Bulluck added: “We’ve grown up a lot. We’ve grown up in a sense that guys that might have just been out there playing and not understanding situations, they’re now out there understanding situations before they happen and understanding what could possibly happen from this particular formation and situation.”’

Cowboys’ defensive coordinator Brian Stewart, quoted on Star-Telegram.com regarding the experience he has gained in a year on the job: "It’s just the growing process. I know the division a lot better. I came from the AFC, and I knew the AFC a lot better than the NFC. I also know our personnel a lot better. You can’t necessarily do what you like. You have to do what the players can do. Now I know what the players can do well. I am really excited about this year and [about] being a better team."

NFLPA executive director Gene Upshaw, responding to comments made by commissioner Roger Goodell regarding the ridiculousness of rookie contracts, as quoted on nfl.com: "I think it's ridiculous that he would make such a comment. We're not in the position to try to take money from anyone. Our job is to make sure you get as much (money) as you're entitled to and not be restricted by anything else. We have never agreed to such a system. I don't see us agreeing to such a system in the future. In three years, you guys will be asked to make some very, very hard decisions that other players have made before you. It will deal with the one issue that seems to be getting a lot of attention -- a wage scale for rookies."

Seahawks QB Charlie Frye, less than a year removed from starting in Cleveland, quoted by The Associated Press regarding his desire to start again: "This isn't my end. I don't see myself as a so-called career backup quarterback. My goal is to get back on the field. That's what I do every day. Every day in the weight room, the film room, on the field, it's keep pushing forward to get back on the field so I can be a starting quarterback again." Frye added: "This year, I'm treating the preseason as my season. Last year, I kind of used the preseason as a tune-up to get ready for the season. This year, the preseason, that's pretty much my season."

NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock, quoted in the South Florida Sun-Sentinel regarding Dolphins first overall pick OLT Jake Long: “He's got the talent, the toughness and the emotional stability to play left tackle at a high level, if he's transitioned over time. I know he's a good athlete; I know he's left-handed and is used to playing the left side. With all those things, I think he could be inundated his first two seasons because I've seen tape when he goes up against defensive ends with NFL-type speed, and he struggles a little bit. Jake doesn't have the rare feet of a Joe Thomas, who started at left tackle from Day One.”

Vikings DE Jared Allen, plans to share his addiction experiences with the 2008 rookie class in hopes of helping them avoid some of the mistakes he made, as quoted on TwinCities.com: "This is probably the last time I'm going to talk about it. I think everybody kind of hung on to it as long as they could. Everyone wanted to be part of the breaking news and then the success story. But this is a cool way to impart some wisdom on the rookies, and this is an area I can help. It's a way to give back. Hopefully, someone can learn from my mistakes."

Unrestricted free-agent CB Ty Law, patiently awaiting an opportunity from an NFL club, as quoted by The Associated Press: "I have contract offers on the table and could have signed a deal early in free agency. There is no rush for me at this point. I'm just going to wait for the right situation and the best fit for both me and the team. I'm approaching the season as anxious and as hungry as ever. My goal is to be in the best shape of my life, both physically and mentally. I'm almost there."

Former Lions OT Lomas Brown, quoted by The Associated Press after the Lions contacted him to help mentor first-round pick OT Gosder Cherilus: “With any first-year guy, there's going to be things you've got to work on. He's got so much going through his head right now. He's a little slow on the snap counts, but things like that, you can teach. You can correct things like that.”

Rams head coach Scott Linehan, quoted in the St Louis Post-Dispatch on the progress of first-round pick Chris Long: “He’s really picked it up. We have high volume on defense, and this is a tough test for any rookie to come in and pick it up. But he’s done a great job. The first two weeks there were some analysis issues, with trying to figure out what in the heck’s going on, adjusting from a 3-4 (defense at Virginia), things like that. But these last three practices … you’ve really seen the light come on. He’s playing at a very high level. The kid’s a special person and a special player, and he’s really going to be a great addition to what we’re doing on defense.”

Buccaneers head coach Jon Gruden, confident that QB Jeff Garcia has several good years left in him, as quoted in USA Today: “When you acquire free-agent players like a Jeff Garcia — particularly at the quarterback position — and you put a guy in a new offense with a new supporting cast in a new division and you get a guy who comes in here and performs the way he did, he certainly showcased that he has juice left. Obviously, we have to keep him healthy for 16 games, but I think there's a lot left in Garcia's tank.”

Dr. D.S. Ping, who has been monitoring the rehab of RB Kevin Jones, as quoted in the Palm Beach Post after Jones’ workout Saturday for at least four teams in Detroit: “All the teams basically said they were amazed by what Kevin can do. What impressed (Lions director of pro personnel Sheldon White) was Kevin’s burst after standing still. He also liked how Kevin picked himself up and finished a drill when he slipped on the grass that was really slick because of a lot of rain.”

Bills RB Marshawn Lynch, explaining his side of the story regarding the hit-and-run accident involving his SUV last month in Buffalo, as quoted by The Associated Press: “I didn't know my car had hit anyone or anything. So I continued on my way home. I apologize to Ms. [Kimberly] Shpeley for any injuries she suffered.”
