Ireland's speech gaffe; Walsh negotiations heat up

By Matt Sohn
April 18, 2008

Friday, April 18, 2008

Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland wasn't exactly a smooth operator in his pre-draft press conference.

After hitting a bit of a snag, it now appears, yet again, that the NFL is close to talking with former Patriots cameraman Matt Walsh.

The 49ers have brought in a lot of 3-4 pass rushers for pre-draft visits.

With Steve McNair announcing his retirement, more pressure had been heaped onto Kyle Boller and Troy Smith.

The Bills could be looking for a tight end after the first round.

The Jaguars are staging an open house at Jacksonville Municipal Stadium for potential season-ticket buyers to see the seats they're interested in.

Thursday, April 17, 2008

Ravens QB Steve McNair is hanging up the pads.

Plans to build an NFL stadium in Los Angeles are under way, with the hopes of luring a franchise to the city of angels.

The Patriots are one of the few teams that draft for value, not need.

One Cincinnati columnist believes the Bengals ought to oblige and trade Chad Johnson.

The Steelers have taken care of all their restricted free agents.

The Houston Chronicle runs through the top Big 12 Conference prospects in the draft.

Wednesday, April 16, 2008

The Patriots, coming off the most dominant regular season in history, have the league's easiest schedule in '08.

Tony Romo, over the disappointing playoff loss to the Giants, is looking forward to the '08 season.

Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel runs through the Dolphins' top 10 draft needs.

Chargers ILB Stephen Cooper has been suspended for apparently taking ephedra.

One Minnesota columnist believes that strength of schedule rankings are overrated.

The Bronocs are busy stockpiling a litany of wide receivers.

Tuesday, April 15, 2008

Dolphins players have been glued to the TV set to watch their teammate Jason Taylor on "Dancing with the Stars."

The Cowboys have upped their offer for Pacman Jones.

Heisman Trophy winner Hershel Walker spoke with "Nightline" about his battle with multiple personality disorder.

Deuce McAllister will remain a Saint … for now.

The controversy as to whether NFL Network should be available on basic cable is going to a legislative hearing in North Carolina.

The Broncos have agreed to a deal with speed merchant WR Samie Parker.

Monday, April 14, 2008

The Chargers might not have many draft picks, but there's a good reason for it.

The Falcons' quarterbacks' performance at minicamp will help them determine whether to draft a quarterback.

The former anchor of the Baltimore Colts' offensive line is dead at 77.

Being an NFL head coach requires both a first-class work ethic and an ability to function on little sleep.

Regardless of what happens with the Pacman Jones trade negotiations, don't expect the Cowboys to alter their draft strategy. But Jones' agent thinks this could be the week a deal gets done.

There's no bigger first-round wild card than the highly touted quarterback.
