The stage has been set for a potential uncapped year in 2010 and possible lockout in 2011 after the NFL owners unanimously voted to opt out of the current Collective Bargaining Agreement early, during an owners meeting in Atlanta on Tuesday morning.

This is a move that had been widely anticipated, and could lead to contentious negotiations between the NFL Players Association and the league over future labor relations.

Many of the league's owners are unhappy with the financial terms of the current CBA and hope to work out a better deal in a new negotiation with the players' union.

The current CBA, which was extended in 2006, was set to run through the 2012 season. The league's salary cap will continue through '08 and '09 but would be abolished for the '10 season.
