Following is a summary of the news involving free agents and other contract-related news around the league:
Thursday, April 24
The Jets traded DT Dewayne Robertson to the Broncos for an undisclosed draft pick or picks, according to an ESPN.com report. Robertson had been the subject of many trade rumors throughout the offseason and was nearly sent to the Bengals early in March, but he failed a physical. He was not a good fit as a nose tackle in the Jets' 3-4 defensive scheme. Some have speculated that the No. 4 overall pick in the 2003 draft has a degenerative bone-on-bone knee condition and will likely have his contract, which calls for a $3 million roster bonus in June, restructured.
Wednesday, April 23
Just a few days after signing his one-year tender, which ended his stint as a restricted free agent, Bears WR Rashied Davis agreed on a three-year deal with Chicago on Wednesday. Davis had 17 catches for 165 yards last season.
The Vikings have agreed with Chiefs FFA DE Jared Allen on a six-year, $74 million deal with $31 million guaranteed, according to various reports. The contract makes Allen, who led the league in sacks last season with 15½, the highest-paid defensive player in the NFL. Minnesota gave up three 2008 draft picks, one first rounder (No. 17) and two third rounders (No. 73 and 82) to obtain Allen. Kansas City now holds six of the top 100 picks.
The Patriots signed UFA TE Marcus Pollard late Tuesday, according to reports. Pollard, a 13-year veteran, spent last season with the Seahawks. He provides depth behind New England's starter, Ben Watson.
Tuesday, April 22
DE Mike Rucker will announce his retirement at a 1 p.m. EDT press conference today. The 33-year-old is still a free agent, after having not been re-signed by the Panthers. He spent all nine seasons of his career with Carolina and had 55½ sacks.
Monday, April 21
Broncos RFA CB Domonique Foxworth signed his one-year tender over the weekend, according to reports. Foxworth, entering his fourth season, will be paid $927,000 in 2008. He was moved to safety late in 2007 after injuries depleted the team's corps of safeties, but will return to corner this season.
Sunday, April 20
Steelers TFA OT Max Starks signed his one-year, $6.895 million tender late Saturday, according to an ESPN.com report. Pittsburgh's O-line suffered a loss when FA OG Alan Faneca signed with the Jets in March and the team didn't want to risk losing another valuable blocker, which helped them make the decision to tag Starks. The 26-year-old suffered damage to the meniscus cartilage in his right knee late last year, which kept him out of the end of the regular season and postseason, but he underwent surgery to repair it.
Saturday, April 19
RFA WR Rashied Davis accepted the Bears' one-year, $927,000 tender offer and re-signed with Chicago. Davis is expected to be in line for a bigger role following the departures of WRs Bernard Berrian and Muhsin Muhammad.
With Friday being the deadline for restricted free agents to receive offers from other teams, a number of RFAs re-signed with their teams: FB Corey McIntyre (Falcons), LS Matt Katula (Ravens), QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (Bengals), OG Joe Berger (Cowboys), S Hamza Abdullah (Broncos), S Jarrod Cooper (Raiders), OG Stephen Peterman (Lions), NT Langston Moore (Lions), DT Colin Cole (Packers), OG Dylan Gandy (Colts), DT Darrell Reid (Colts) and OT Will Svitek (Chiefs).
Friday, April 18
Seahawks RFA FB Leonard Weaver will sign his one-year tender, Harold C. Lewis, Weaver's agent, told the Tacoma News Tribune. Weaver was tendered at the second-round level and will be paid $1.417 million in 2008.
Thursday, April 17
Ravens QB Steve McNair will announce his retirement today. McNair, a 13-year veteran, informed teammates of his decision this morning and will hold a news conference at 1 p.m. EDT, according to an ESPN.com report.
The Steelers re-signed RFA WR Nate Washington late Wednesday. Washington signed a one-year tender that will pay him $1.417 million this season. He caught 29 passes and scored five touchdowns in 2007.
Wednesday, April 16
The Broncos agreed to terms with veteran WR Darrell Jackson on a one-year deal Wednesday, according to reports. Jackson, who was released by the 49ers last month after a disappointing one-year stint with the team, is expected to compete with Keary Colbert, another free-agent signee, for the No. 2 spot at receiver in Denver.
The Raiders have signed CB Duane Starks for the third time in as many seasons. Starks, who inked a one-year deal, played in three games for Oakland in 2006 and was on the roster for three contests in 2007 before being released. The 33-year-old veteran will help to fill the void left by CB Chris Carr, who recently signed with the Titans.
Monday, April 14
The Broncos have reached an agreement in principle with UFA WR Samie Parker, according to an ESPN.com report. Terms of the deal were not available. Parker started 22 games over the past two seasons for the Chiefs and caught 24 passes in 2007.
The Saints and RB Deuce McAllister reached an agreement Monday to keep him with the team through at least training camp, according to a report by PFW correspondent Mike Triplett, a beat writer for the New Orleans Times-Picayune. The team owed McAllister a $1 million roster bonus by Monday, but it appears he agreed to restructure his contract, which called for a base salary of $3.6 million in 2008, to include more incentives based on performance. The details of the deal are not yet known.
Falcons RFAs P Michael Koenen and DE Chauncey Davis each signed their one-year tenders Monday, the team announced. Davis, a three-year veteran, played all 16 games last season and had a career-high two sacks. Koenen handled punt and kickoff duties for Atlanta in 2007.
