While the pro football world waits for actual substantial developments in the latest chapter of the Brett Favre saga, everybody has been left to form his or her own opinions on what they think the future first-ballot Hall of Famer might have in mind.

If you ask Packers front office heavyweights Mark Murphy, the team’s president and CEO, and Bob Harlan, the Chairman Emeritus, they would tell you that they believe Favre will stay retired  — after all is said and done.

“What I remember about him (Favre) is he was ready to retire (in his March 6 retirement press conference), and that’s how I feel today,” Harlan told the Green Bay Press Gazette Tuesday during a charity auction deep in the heart of Packers country in Fon du Lac, Wisconsin. “I think down deep, that’s exactly how he feels.”

Murphy, referring to the Favre dilemma as “a delicate situation,” agreed with Harlan that Favre seems terribly conflicted at the moment.

“No player leaves the game gracefully,” Murphy said. “It’s kind of the nature of what makes great players great, is they’re competitors and they always want to compete and they want the next challenge, and it’s hard to find that next thing that’s going to give you that excitement and adrenaline. That’s what we’re seeing a little bit here.”
