It turns out, Robbie Gould will stay in San Francisco.
The veteran kicker and the 49ers worked out a deal in principle on a long-term contract, NFL Network reported Monday morning. The two sides had until 4 p.m. Eastern on Monday to reach a deal before Gould would have played the 2019 season under the franchise tag.
The terms of the deal are reported as four years, $19 million, with the first two years guaranteed for $10.5 million.
It's been a long road for Gould and 49ers to reach a deal. Back in April, Gould had requested a trade, prompting Bears fans longing for the days of Gould's reliable kicking to return to Soldier Field. The Bears are still in search of a kicker since Gould's 2016 departure.
In the past three seasons, Gould has been successful on 82 of 85 field goal attempts, including 33 of 34 last season.
