The Raiders fired coach Jack Del Rio on Sunday following the team's noncompetitive 30-10 road loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, the coach confirmed in his postgame news conference.
Del Rio's dismissal clears the path for Jon Gruden's potential return to the Raiders, as first reported by ESPN on Saturday night.
Del Rio signed a four-year contract extension through 2020 last offseason on the heels of a 12-4 campaign. Yet, following Oakland's 6-10 finish, including an awful regression on offense, owner Mark Davis apparently will go all in to pursue Gruden with his team just two years away from moving to Las Vegas.
Pro Football Weekly will have more on this developing story soon.
