DFS Week 10: Making injury news work for you

It's not revolutionary to suggest that DFS players need to account for injury news when building lineups, but there is one step casual players often overlook.

It's easy to see Leonard Fournette or Zach Ertz get ruled out and to then check the depth chart. More importantly for large-pool tournaments, however, is considering how an inury might change a game's flow.

Deshaun Watson's knee injury prior to Week 9 was a pefect example. His absence was a downgrade for DeAndre Hopkins and Will Fuller, of course, but it almost meant the Colts had a much better chance of keeping the game competitive.

Not surprisingly, a Jacoby Brissett and T.Y. Hilton stack became one of the most profitable combinations of the weekend.

Now onto the picks:

QUARTERBACKS

High: Jared Goff ($6,700 DraftKings/$8,200 FanDuel): It's difficult to fathom Goff being a high-end QB, but here we are. He's fresh off of obliterating the Giants and now gets a hollowed-out Houston pass defense.

Mid: Josh McCown ($6,100 DraftKings/$7,400 FanDuel): You can't count on the rushing touchdowns to continue, but a matchup vs. Tampa Bay's secondary is always a welcome sight.

Low: Ryan Fitzpatrick ($4,900 DraftKings/$6,100 FanDuel): The revenge narrative will definitely be a thing this week. But even without it, Fitzpatrick will start for a team with terrific receivers against a weak pass defense.

RUNNING BACKS

High: Le'Veon Bell ($9,800 DraftKings/$9,400 FanDuel): It's always best to target Bell on the road, and here we are. Bell gets a road matchup indoors in Indianapolis against a Colts' run defense that is rapidly regressing.

Mid: Jerick McKinnon ($6,600 DraftKings/$6,600 FanDuel): Hopefully McKinnon will go overlooked by the masses since the Vikings are coming off their bye week. He's simply too cheap for his current workload.

Low: Derrick Henry ($5,000 DraftKings/$5,100 FanDuel): DeMarco Murray has already battled numerous injuries this season, and now he's dealing with a knee injury. Fire up Henry if Murray is limited or out.

WIDE RECEIVERS

High: A.J. Green ($7,700 DraftKings/$7,900 FanDuel): Green appears to have escaped a suspension despite his altercation in Week 9 with Jalen Ramsey. Green should feast against a weaker Tennesssee secondary.

Mid: Golden Tate ($6,800 DraftKings/$7,400 FanDuel): Tate has at least seven targets in six of eight games so far this season. You can bet that trend will continue against the Browns' pass-funnel defense.

Low: Sammy Watkins ($4,800 DraftKings/$6,400 FanDuel): Watkins can disappear for long stretches, but he reminded everyone of his big-play potential last week. Now he gets the Texans, who were just demolished by T.Y. Hilton.

TIGHT ENDS

High: Evan Engram ($6,200 DraftKings/ $7,400 FanDuel): The price has finally caught up with his production, but it's tough to turn down the high floor Engram provides, particularly against the 49ers.

Mid: Cameron Brate ($4,100 DraftKings/$5,700 FanDuel): Brate has failed to reach the end zone in each of his last three outings. That should change with Fitzpatrick at quarterback, and with the Jets' defense waiting.

Low: Garrett Celek ($2,500 DraftKings/$4,500 FanDuel): Celek is minimum price on both sides and will get the start in place of George Kittle against the Giants, who rank among the worst in the league at defending tight ends.
