Matt Moore could have entered free agency as the top quarterback available. Instead, he is staying in Miami.

The Dolphins re-signed Moore to a two-year deal worth $8 million, according to NFL Network’s Jeff Darlington.

As Ryan Tannehill’s backup last season, Moore appeared in two games. When Tannehill left the Week Eight game against the Jets with an injury, Moore came in and completed 11-of-19 passes for 131 yards and a score in a 30-9 win. He did not attempt a pass in his other appearance.

"Matt has been a valuable contributor to the Dolphins ever since he arrived two seasons ago," said GM Jeff Ireland. "We are happy we were able to resign him, and we think he combines with Ryan Tannehill and Pat Devlin to give us an outstanding group of quarterbacks.”

In 2011, Moore took over for Chad Henne and started 12 games, throwing 16 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He went 6-6 as a starter in ’11.

The 28-year-old signalcaller has started 25 games in six NFL seasons.
